Design

It sticks to the usual design in the satellite series. This one is a little bulkier when looked from the sides but that should be a deal breaker. The key pad gives a nice feeling and the touch pad is pretty standard stuff as well. You can’t expect great design in a budget laptop and it proves to be very true in this case.

Display

We have a 15.6 inch display and as in any budget device, the resolution here is 1366 x 768 pixels. This is a HD resolution and offers neat images and pictures. People might complain that full HD is missing but it’s a little too much to expect that in a budget laptop and since the size s only 15.6 inches you cannot see any pixels. So this resolution does a good job on its own and makes this display suitable for watching movies and sports.

Processor and Memory

The processor that runs the Toshiba Satellite C55D-A5120 is an AMD E2 3800 processor that clocks at 1.3GHz. It is a quad core processor and you can expect it to runs applications smoothly and without any lag in the performance. The operating system,                Windows 8.1, runs without any issues and light user will not have any complains over the performance of this processor. It is perfect for students buying their first laptop on a budget.

There are 4 gigs of RAM that makes the memory department. This is a good amount of memory and with the processor the user can perform multi tasking without any hiccups. Light users will be amazed by the speed and mid range users also won’t have anything to find fault with.

Hard drive and Graphics

A 500GB hard disk takes care of the space requirement. This might look like inadequate space but actually is a lot. If you have a lot of media that needs to be transferred we recommend you to get an external hard disk. There are a lot of cheaper ones available in the market.

AMD Radeon HD 8280 is the graphics card in this machine. This is a good one and does a decent job in running games. You can run most of the games and even some high end games with minimum settings. But if you are a diehard gamer, we recommend you to look elsewhere.

Battery and Connectivity

The battery life is taken care of by a standard battery pack that can last up to 3.5 hours. This is great by any means but if you are planning to use this laptop at home you shouldn’t be worrying about this.

There are 3 USB ports in total in which one is a USB 3.0 port. There is also a DVD super multi drive that will read and write DVDs for you. The HDMI port allows you to connect with higher end devices like a HDTV so that you can view and browse your content in a bigger, better screen. There is no Bluetooth but you can connect to the internet through Wi-Fi.

Is It Worth the Money?

For a light user looking for a budget laptop, this one ticks all the check boxes. There are no super high quality features in this one but does basic computing at its best. Money wise, it is a very good laptop at this price tag.

Pros

  • Good Memory
  • USB 3.0 at this price point

Cons

  • Bit bulkier and a tad heavy
