The design has not seen any big changes on the outside. The desktop comes in a glossy black cabinet which is a conventional tower type one. This is a design that has worked well for Dell in the past and it is no mystery that they have chosen to go with it. There are a few media card readers and some USB ports on the front making it easier to access.

The spear grill can be found on the bottom of the front face and is pretty decent for a built-in speaker. You should get external speakers if you are serious about your sound. On the back, you will find the rest of the ports and jacks that are essential for connectivity. This desktop weighs around 14 pounds, so moving this around should not be that big of a problem.

Make note that you will have to buy a monitor separately as this is a standalone desktop. Out monitor section will come in handy if you have no idea what to get.

Dell XPS 8700 X8700-2815BLK Specs

The Dell XPS 8700 X8700-2815BLK Desktop is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor from the Haswell generation. This is not the latest generation of chips, but don’t let that fool you. This is one of the most powerful processors you can get your hands on at the moment. With a typical clock speed of 3.6GHz and a turbo boost speed of 4GHz, it should be an excellent choice for even heavy users.

You can throw anything on this chip, and it will run it like a boss. The processor is well complimented by the memory in this machine. There are 16 gigs of DDR3 memory that come with a very good frequency. This is a dream come true for someone who multitasks a lot.

Now you can have n number of tabs in your browser and still face no lag. You can run system-intensive applications alongside other apps and feel not performance issues. Heavy users can also make good use of this memory and can even run virtual machines with this processor-memory combo.

This is not a perfect machine, and storage is the area where we see a drop in quality and power. Here, we have a 1TB hard drive that comes with enough space for all your games, movies, songs, and other data. Though this isn’t necessarily a low-quality drive, the speed is not as good as an SSD. Dell should have included an SSD here, but hey haven’t.

Dell XPS 8700 X8700-2815BLK desktopThe operating system that is pre-loaded in the hard drive is Windows 10. This is the latest operating system from Microsoft that offers you some cool features like Cortana and Microsoft Edge. This operating system will make your life a lot better if you are on a previous version of Windows.

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 745 is the graphics card in the Dell XPS 8700 X8700-2815BLK desktop. This is an upper mid-range graphics card that has 4 gigs of dedicated video memory. You can play pretty much all the recent games and in most cases, you get excellent frame rates as well.

You can find all the necessary ports and jacks you would expect in a recently released desktop computer. There are 6 USB 3.0 ports, 4 USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port, a 19-in-1 media card reader, and also a DVD writer that is helpful when you need one.

Dell XPS 8700 X8700-2815BLK Review: Verdict

The Dell XPS 8700 X8700-2815BLK is a machine that is made for mid-range and heavy users. This brings a lot of processing power and the other hardware complement it beautifully. If you are on the hunt for a nice high-end desktop computer, get this one.
