Dell Inspiron i3647-1231BK reviewThe Dell Inspiron i3647-1231BK is a nice little desktop for anyone looking for a budget desktop around the $350 range. Does this mean it is going to perform any less? We don’t think so. Read out review of this latest entry from Dell and see whether it has what it takes to become your go to desktop.

Design

The desktop is smaller than most of the desktops in the Inspiron range and will take up less space in your room. Other elements like ventilation are pretty much the same. There aren’t any ports in the front which could make the handling a bit easier for users.

Processor and Memory

The processor that runs the Dell Inspiron i3647-1231BK is the Intel Pentium G3220 processor that clocks at 3.0GHz. There are two ways to look at this processor. One is that it is nowhere near the best processors in the market (especially the 4th generation Haswell chips). The second way is to decide whether you actually need all those power to fulfill your needs.

If you are going to use your desktop for light uses such as web browsing, word processing and other office suite programs then this processor can be an amazing job and there won’t be any lag in the performance. But if you need work on high end applications then you definitely need better power.

The memory department is filled with a 4GB DDR3 RAM. This is a good amount of memory and can get you to do some efficient multi tasking. You can run many applications (small and mid range ones) at the same time and face no lag at all.

 Hard Drive

The hard drive comes with a capacity of 500GB which should be good enough for a light user. You can expand your hard drive and replace this one but we feel it is easier to get an external hard drive if you have such expansion plans.

The hard drive some pre-installed with Windows 8. This isn’t everyone’s favorite and if you feel the same way then you can revert to Windows 7 with a little effort. Otherwise, you are good to go.

Graphics

Intel HD integrated graphics makes up this department and does a good job considering this is the default card in most of the desktops. If you are a gamer, you can enjoy playing some small and mid range games but high end games are out of question.

There are about 6 USB ports in the Dell Inspiron i3647-1231BK. Out of the 6, 4 are USB 3.0 ports which are a great addition to this budget desktop. This does makes the desktop future proof in one way. There is also a DVD drive for those who prefer DVDs instead of USB ports.

Pros

  • Very Affordable
  • USB 3.0 ports offer super fast data transfer

Cons

  • Not the greatest processor
