Dell Inspiron i15RV-954BLKThe Dell Inspiron i15RV-954BLK is a 15.6 inch laptop that comes around as a budget option to those who are looking for a laptop under $400. Design

There is nothing new in the design as they have continued with the winning design in the older models. Also this is a budget device which reducing any chance in changing the design by itself. The textured area around the keypad and the track pad will give a good feel to the users. The keyboard is also nice to use though it is a regular one.

Display

It is a 15.6 inch display with High definition resolution. This may not a full HD screen but the picture quality is very good is good enough for watching movies and doing other media related work. The size might be a little small for those who plan to do image editing but the crisp image quality will compensate for that.

Processor and Memory

The processor that runs the Dell Inspiron i15RV-954BLK is an Intel Pentium processor that has a maximum clocking freq of 1.9GHz. This is a decent processor and though it is nowhere near the latest haswell processors it can cater to the needs of a light and mid range users without any problems. Running applications is smooth and the operating system (Windows 8) just glides through.

There is a standard 4GB DDR3 RAM. This makes up the memory department and does a fair job. Since 4 gigs of RAM is like a minimum these days there isn’t anything special about that. But do you need more than that is the question to ask yourself. For a light user there isn’t much need for anything more than 4GB of RAM and that is why is this is best suited for the light users.

Hard drive

There is a 500GB hard drive which is a ample amount of space for anyone unless you are some kind of a power user. This is also something that has become an industry standard but they could have included a solid state drive that would have increased the performance by a good extent. Though it is a little too much to ask for in a budget device, its addition would have made this a deal hard to pass.

The battery life is decent; thanks to the 4-cell lithium ion battery pack that keeps the laptop alive. You can work without a power supply for about 4 hours but it isn’t a good idea to work for a whole day without a supply because you won’t be able to.

Connectivity

There are 2 USB 2.0 ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports which way faster than the former. There is an 8X CD/DVD burner which can burn you DVDs at a pretty good speed. There are other regulars like Ethernet connectivity and Bluetooth 4.0.

Is It Worth the Money?

For someone on a tight budget this is the best bet we can give you. If you have another $100 to spend there may be a better option, but at this price tag there are very less alternatives around.

Pros

  • Budget Perfect
  • Good Spec
  • USB 3.0

Cons

  • No SSD
