ASUS F555LA-AS51 15.6 inch Laptop Review

This ASUS F555LA-AS51 review is going to talk about this new mid range release from ASUS. The laptop is priced reasonably and comes with an impressive array of specs. With the brand new Broadwell-based chip in its arsenal, this is a laptop you should be on the lookout for. Read this full review to know more about its specs and performance.

Design

The laptop comes with a classic ASUS metallic finish. In terms of looks, it definitely looks and feels premium for the price range. The USB and the HDMI ports can be accessed at the sides. The key pad comes with well spaced keys that give a nice feedback once hit. The ergonomically designed keyboard comes with an ice cool technology which keeps the palm rest at a comfortable temperature.

The touch pad is responsive and is standard stuff. With dimensions of 20.10 x 2.80 x 11.80 inches, it weighs around 5.6 pounds which is quite easy to carry around. If you are someone who does a lot of traveling then this is something that should interest you. The design department has done a neat job even if not a super impressive one.

Hardware

The display here is a 15.6-inch high definition one which comes with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This is also a matte display which means it’ll reflect less and prevent glare. So next time you sit in front of your screen, your reflection won’t be picture perfect.

This screen is pretty good for both work and play. You can watch movies, play games and it’s good for any other kind of media consumption as well. They could have included a touchscreen but at this price point you can’t ask for more.

The ASUS F555LA-AS51 laptop is powered by an Intel core i5 processor. This i5 5200U processor is based on the Broadwell architecture and is the latest release from Intel. It comes with less power consumption features and increased efficiency.

In real life, this processor can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. Be it office suites or photo editing apps, this one can handle it with ease. The only time you’ll be pushing this to its limit is when using virtual machine with system intensive app running in it. In all other cases, this processor is a great one to have.

The 8GB DDR3 RAM compliments this Intel chip in the best way possible. This memory is more than enough for most of the mid range users. You can multi task without worrying about the performance. This means your chrome browser can have many tabs than before and there will be no lag or very little lag.

There are very little options in terms of upgrading. So upgrading to more memory in the future might be a little difficult. See if this fits your needs and proceed further. In our humble opinion, this RAM is good to go for light and mid range users.

You have lots of space to play with in the 1TB SATA hard drive. It’ll fit your games, pictures, movies, song collections and other stuff without any problem. You won’t have to get a backup drive as this space is good enough. But we do recommend a cloud backup as it is more secure.

The operating system is Windows 8.1. This is not everyone’s favorite but surely is one of the best OS’s right now. Spend some time with it and you’ll like it better. You can upgrade to Windows 10 for free for the first year which is a sweet little gesture from Microsoft.

The graphics card is an important element for anyone who plays games. Here we have an Intel HD 5500 graphics card which is an integrated one. This GPU is great for moderated gaming. If you want to play some high end games, you’ll have to tone down the settings and adjust with the lower frame rates.

Just like every other modern laptop, there is support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections. There are 3 USB 3.0 ports and a single USB 2.0 port which can help with connectivity as well as data transfer. The HDMI port will be useful for some high end connectivity like HD displays. There is also a dual layer DVD drive which can help you with your DVD needs.

Verdict

The ASUS F555LA-AS51 15.6 inch laptop model is a good mid range device with some serious power under the hood. The manufacturers also haven’t priced it too high which makes it hard to pass. If you are in need of a fast mid range laptop, this is a good choice.
