This Acer Predator AG3-605-UR1G review talks about the latest addition to the Predator series from Acer. This one primarily targets light and mid range gamers. Looking at the price tag, this one is a sure contender for gaming in budget but how does it perform? Read this full review to know the answer and much more about this new release.
The predator series has stuck to pretty much a similar design and there is nothing different here. There are no flashy lights and awesome out of the box designs. But the black and red color scheme is a classic and still looks great.
There is a grip at the top of the cabinet for easily moving the desktop around. The keyboard and the mouse are essentials and you get nothing special here. Overall, it is a repeated yet classic design does interfere with gamers’ job.
Sadly there is no display here. You may have to get one yourself. If you are a mid range or a hardcore gamer, we recommend getting an ultra HD gaming monitor which handles everything smoothly. There are also cheaper monitors that get the job done, but hey it’s up to you.
The Intel core i5 4590 is the processor that runs the Acer Predator AG3-605-UR1G desktop. This is a Haswell-based chip and is only second to the i7 line-up from Intel. The processor clocks at 3.3GHz and does a very good job.
It runs some of the best games in the recent times without any problem. There is no stutter (thanks to the GPU, more on this later) or interference as Intel’s hyper threading technology takes care of multi threaded applications efficiently.
The memory we have here is an 8GB DDR3 RAM. This memory is decent and is just enough for a gaming machine. This allows you to run huge games that are memory hogs without any problem. You can also switch between apps without wasting any time.
If you feel that you need more memory, you can upgrade it to 16GB or more as the RAM is user upgradable. Otherwise this is a good amount of memory to have in the budget gaming desktop.
There is a 1TB 7200RPM SATA hard drive. This comes with a lot of space for all your games and other stuff. Though 7200RPM is a good speed, you might miss the high performance of an S.S.D. here. We do recommend you to upgrade to an S.S.D. to see great improvements in the system performance.
The operating system that comes pre-installed in the hard drive is Windows 8.1. This OS is known to give great support to gaming and you also get a free upgrade to Windows 10 once it releases this summer, which is sweet.
The graphics card here is the Nvidia GeForce GTX745. It comes with a dedicated memory of 4GB which is neat. For any kind of gamer this is a GPU you wouldn’t miss. Though it might be old by a couple of years, it still performs great. You can run games like Battlefield, Far cry and other high end games without any problem.
The desktop support wireless standards like 802.11a/c and Bluetooth 4.0. There 8 USB ports out of which 4 are USB 3.0 ports which can transfer data at very high speeds. There is also a super multi DVD drive that can help you with your DVDs.
The DVI port enables you to connect your computer to a monitor. There is also a HDMI port which allows you to connect your desktop to a high end display like a HDTV so that you can play your games in super high resolutions.
The Acer Predator AG3-605-UR1G is a good choice for anyone who needs to game on a budget. Is it flawless? Absolutely not. But it surely serves as an excellent gaming desktop computer for the price. If you are on a budget and looking an off the shelf gaming machine, this is it.
